Stillwater Cemetery, Flushing Twp OH

        Stillwater Cemetery

This was cemetery visit #2 from a roadtrip to Ohio I took with my mom & sisters back in March.
This was another small, beautiful old cemetery, quite off the beaten path.
You can see on the screenshot here where I mapped out directions to get here.  It was about 3.5 miles from the Belmont Ridge Cemetery that I posted last weekend.  I thought it was odd saying it would take 33 minutes, tho....
But when we actually went to drive there - it wanted us to park out on the paved road and walk the mile or so back!  The dirt road was actually in pretty good condition, considering the amount of rain & flooding that had happened in the days before we got there.  Anyway.  Not walking!!!  But that explained the 33 minutes.
All the headstones were way back along the far side of the lot from where we parked.
This is the first stone that caught my attention!
I haven't seen a slab like this since the Spouse & I went to Boston.

Elizabeth

Joseph Moore

John A. Beatty

This stone must have been stacked together for a long time, since the willow tree and his name are in beautiful condition.
William Smith
died Jan 28, 1878
aged 26y 1m & 13d
I wish I could tell what the carving at the top had been.
Close up of said carving....
at first it looked like pelvic bones - which would be weird, but ya never know...
another look, I can see it's a pitcher of some sort but can't tell what's at the top.
Mary
wife of William Smith
died Dec 3, 1859
aged 77y, 4m, 26d
close up of Mary's carving.  I've seen the hand pointing up, which means the soul had risen to Heaven.  But all the flowers around the wrist are so pretty!
Roses stand for everlasting love, purity and beauty of soul.
Margaret

Close up of the top of Eugene's stone (and a mud dauber nest)
Most of the inscription is gone from this area, but the hearts on each corner are a nice touch!
It reminds me of a pumpkin.
I saw this building when I was first looking on Find A Grave - I thought it was a creepy old house, but seeing it in real life, it reminded me of something you'd see on a campground.  The windows were boarded, but they were on hinges.  It looked a bit farther away on the map, too.
Thomas Dunn
died Nov 21, 1861
in his 57th year
Find a Grave says he was a private in the 15th Ohio Infantry, Co K.
I didn't get the name on this one - I just noticed the fern carvings.
Dallas S.

look at how close the stones are!
I wonder if there was a little portrait in that square?
Margaret M.
died May 7, 1866
Find a Grave says she was 4y 4m 4d old, but I swear that line under her name says wife of G. Todd....and it looks like it says 34y
Anyhoo.  Rest in peace, Margaret!

Sunken, leaf-filled, grave-sized hollows
Creepy building from the road
Lots of deer bones across the road
There is a camera pointing down at the door, but I didn't see any wires running from the poles to the structure itself.
